PPWR-focused packaging markings:

• Harmonised material-composition label: PPWR requires a harmonised, pictogram-based label showing the packaging material composition to help consumers sort it correctly. The final EU label format is set by implementing rules.

• Clear sorting information: Any recycling or disposal instruction must be clear, legible and must not mislead consumers about recyclability or waste-treatment options.

• Optional digital information: A QR code or other standardised digital data carrier may be added to provide component-specific sorting guidance.

• Compostable packaging statement: If the mailing bag is compostable, the label must indicate that it is compostable, whether it is unsuitable for home composting, and that it must not be discarded in nature.

• Manufacturer identification: Where required, the packaging can include the manufacturer’s name or trademark and contact details, either printed directly or provided through a QR code/data carrier.

• Custom branding and compliance artwork: Logos, recycling guidance, QR codes, material references and customer-required packaging marks can all be incorporated into the bag design.

Note: PPWR’s harmonised material-composition label is scheduled to apply from 12 August 2028, or later if the relevant EU implementing rules take effect later. Final compliance depends on the bag’s material, structure, intended market and the final EU/national requirements.
