Why does war often occur in the most sacred places?

Pourquoi la guerre survient-elle souvent dans les lieux les plus sacrés ?

Hello everyone,

I am a small business owner in China, specializing in exports. When I see news of civilians being affected by war, it makes me profoundly sad. I feel a great injustice for them.

I believe I can help from China, as we have abundant resources here. Sometimes, a simple disinfectant product can save a life. But today, with transportation disrupted, I don't know how to reach those in need.

During the pandemic in 2019, I was in Paris. When the situation was serious in China, I helped my family and friends buy masks. Many kind French people also helped me by providing masks.

Later, when the epidemic spread to France, I wanted to return the favor. At that time, stocks in China were sufficient, so we sent sanitary supplies to Paris and distributed masks to people around us.

I sincerely believe that the world is interconnected and that people want to help each other. But for that, those who want to help and those who need help must be able to find each other.

I want to quote Yu Qiuyu from A Millennium's Sigh (Cultural Journey) —

All true religion begins with compassion.
Then why does it become intolerant?
Every great civilization shines through its openness.
Then why does it end in hostility?
Jerusalem, with its broken walls, bears witness to the splendor and sorrow of human civilization, as well as the nobility and narrowness of faith.
One wall can separate two worlds; one door can separate life and death. Different religions quarrel over the same stones; different peoples quarrel over the same land. The cracks in the Wailing Wall are filled with prayers; the dome of the mosque resonates with recitations; the bells of the church contain millennia of sighs.

Faith has never disappeared, but understanding seems to wither.
Behind these grand narratives, it is ordinary people whose destinies are turned upside down.

They can simply walk down a street and never return home.
They can simply believe in something and yet be forced into opposition.

We cannot stop wars, but we can choose something important:
Not to look away from the lives of ordinary people.

Even a share, a small gesture, a message of connection—
can make someone visible.
